6 Lessons Celebrities Taught Us About Buying Cars

March 1, 2023 by SplashPress

Often, we look to celebrities to set a standard for things like fashion and beauty and what the latest trends are. There’s a good chance you’ve looked to certain celebrities when deciding what shoes or clothes to buy; or maybe an actor or musician has influenced a larger purchase like a car.

We all like to think about what we would buy if we didn’t have to worry about money. Celebrities are here to show you exactly what money like theirs can buy, and they often set the bar pretty high for everyone else. Here’s a few things we can learn from celebrities and their cars.

1. The car fanatic might be the person you least expect

When you think about comedian Jerry Seinfeld, you probably think about his TV show, his famous voice, or his stand-up career. You probably wouldn’t peg him for a car guy, but his massive Porsche collection says otherwise. At the center of his 46-car collection is a Porsche 959, which probably set him back around $700,000.

2. Girls can be into cars, too

The women of Hollywood prove that expensive cars aren’t just for guys. Paris Hilton’s pink Bentley GT Continental, adorned with a diamond-encrusted interior, shows that the ladies can put just as much attention into their cars as their male counterparts … even if the goal is to create a real-life Barbie dream car. When the price is right, there’s a car for anyone.

3. Speed is everything

When a celebrity spends thousands — or millions — on a car, he or she isn’t necessarily worrying about getting the best gas mileage. What stars are really looking for is speed and performance — as well as the look, of course.

Take American Idol judge Simon Cowell, for example, whose Bugatti Veyron is one of the fastest in the world. This car is capable of reaching speeds above 250 mph. Maybe that’s not the most practical feature for Los Angeles traffic, but being able to go from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds is still pretty impressive.

4. If all else fails, you can sell

Wealth doesn’t last forever, and there are plenty of celebrities who can attest to that. When things go bad, at least a movie star can sell his car in order to pay off debts. After incurring massive amounts of debt, Nicolas Cage had to sell off his Ferrari Enzo, which is typically priced around $670,000 or more.

5. A cool car makes anyone who drives it look cool

When you don’t have to worry about price, you’re able to focus on building an image for yourself. That’s clearly how many celebrities buy their cars. While we have to shop around for the best deal or buy used cars, celebrities can buy a car based on how cool it looks, not by its price tag, and driving a cool car inherently makes whoever is driving it look just as cool.

6. Batman will always have the sweetest ride

If you look at rapper Jay-Z‘s car, a Maybach Exelero, it may just remind you of someone else’s wheels. It looks like the Batmobile.

Jay-Z is among the few whose income reaches close enough to Bruce Wayne’s that he is able to afford such an extravagant and iconic car as the Maybach Exelero, which comes with an $8 million price tag. While we look to celebrities to decide what’s cool, sometimes they’re being influenced themselves — by Batman and Barbie.
