India is very much on the map right now, thanks to Elizabeth Hurley’s wedding. Elephants and feasting though aren’t all there is to this land. Just like all the other countries in the world, it has been hit with the dreaded disease HIV or AIDS as it is also commonly known.

Ashley Judd has long been an avid supporter of AIDS foundations. She is a Youth AIDS Global Ambassador She decided to go to India and help increase awareness about the disease, how it is spread or acquired and how it can be prevented. She is representing Population Services International, a non-profit group that is based in Washington.

Her guide during her stay is former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. During her visit Judd will be meeting with sex workers with Sen acting as her translator since the people mainly speak Bengali. They hope that more women will learn that with a little care, they can prevent or minimize the risk of contracting HIV themselves
