Lots of visitors coming to Hollywood do so to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. The great thing about the place is that anywhere you go the chances of being star struck is there.
If you want to spot some big stars but start feeling hungry from all the sightseeing you might as well visit restaurants that are the favorites of your favorite celebs including:
Spago Beverly Hills – The original Spago used to be located in west Hollywood but after Wolfgang Puck opened the Beverly Hills branch he had to let the first one go. If you want a sure shot at seeing big names this is the place to go especially during peak hours (7-9pm). The problem with the place though is that it is that you would need to book reservations days or even weeks in advance. Unless you’re a celeb or going out with one you also wouldn’t be able to get a table during the peak hours. Still the food is really excellent and at the very least you can say you’ve dined in the place where Sir Elton John, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Robin Williams, Sydney Poitier, Tom Hanks, and so many more have dined.
Formosa Cafe – Fancy a drink? This is the place to go. Actually the place offers a lot more than drinks and has an excellent full menu everynight. Formosa Cafe is really frequented by the celebs though mostly just for cocktails. The great thing about Formosa Cafe is that the prices are relatively reasonable and the ambiance will make you fill at ease. Big names that have been spotted there include Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, James Dean, etc (although you surely wouldn’t see them coming again!). Among those alive and breathing big stars that have been seen there include Bono, Nicolas Cage, Britney Spears, Jodie Foster, Kevin Spacey, an more.

Forget buying gifts for other people — what should Hollywood fans get for themselves? What about these vintage movie posters, available at emovieposter.com This site carries some of the posters from old blockbusters, from Disney’s 102 Dalmations to Empire Strikes Back to Ghostbusters.
Better yet, arrange a Hollywood tour that’ll bring you to the studios or sets. Now that’s what we call bragging rights.

Do you consider yourself to be a maverick? I know a lot of people who do. It does not mean that they become instant successes but they do have a character of their own. In Hollywood, more than in other places, we can find a lot of mavericks. Forbes actually ran a feature article on some of Hollywood’s best known mavericks with this unforgettable lesson: “If you make people money, you can get away with being a maverick in Hollywood. If you don’t, well, that’s another story.”
So who made the list? Here are some of them.
Oliver Stone
He’s cemented his outsider status with a rebellious nature and a penchant for high-minded, controversial films. His work has provocatively depicted American culture, politics and business with Wall Street, Born on the Fourth of July and Natural Born Killers. But his latest film, W, grossed just $10 million during its opening weekend.
Michael Moore
He’s turned controversy into commerce, with documentaries that have explored American health care, the Iraq war, President Bush and gun ownership. But when his 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11 grossed over $200 million worldwide–though it had a production cost of $6 million–that’s when he became a Hollywood darling. He’ll earn a reported $20 million to do the sequel.
Mel Gibson
Besides being outspoken, they’re adept at manipulating publicity–both positive and negative–to boost their fame, allowing them to work on their own terms. “Celebrities are selling their own brands because it affords them more freedom and they can drive the machine,” Says Levine.
That last description was actually referring not only to Mel Gibson but to other personalities such as Madonna and Kanye West as well. We all know where these people are right now and I think that being mavericks is one big reason that they reached where they are.

Just because Hollywood is where some of the richest people on earth live, it does not mean that the community does not have a sense of social and environmental responsibility. Indeed, some of the most socially aware people are big figures in Hollywood. As another testament to how this part of the world is contributing to the effort to save Mother Earth, the first eco-friendly lounge is set to open in November of this year in Hollywood.
Dubbed Ecco, the lounge is located in the Cahuenga Corridor and is set to lay down the standards for an environmentally friendly night out. Ecco used to be the Tokio Hollywood, which was renovated and transformed into something which, many would say, is better.
So what makes Ecco different from the plethora of night clubs and lounges in Hollywood? Here are some of its features:
– Multi-colored state-of-the-art LED lighting, exclusively designed and installed by Disco Designer and Cosmos Lighting.
– Neutralized carbon emissions through LivClean.
– Green energy supplied by L.A. Department of Water & Power’s Green Power resources.
– Certified organic cuisine and beverages without fertilizers, pesticides, hormones or antibiotics.
– Energy efficient insulation, saving 20% more energy than standard insulation.
– Eco-friendly bathrooms with flushless toilets, Dyson “Airblade” hand dryers, and organic cleansers and hand soaps.
– Free valet service for hybrid vehicles.
– Paperless event ticketing, table and bottle reservations provided by UpCode Solutions USA/Mobile Access & Interaction technology (MAI)(TM).
– Custom audio provided by Turbosound, winners of the Best Club Awards
LED lighting, flushless toilets, organic food – you can’t get any “eco-friendlier” than that can you?

It may not be the newest hotel in the area, nor is it the grandest, but the Chateau Marmont is the hotel steeped in authentic Hollywood history. Located at 8221 Sunset Boulevard, the hotel was built in 1927 by Fred Horowitz. It was modeled after the famed Château d’Amboise in the Loire Valley in France. Originally, though, the project was not meant as a hotel. In fact, it was opened in 1929 as an apartment building. Due to the high rent and the Depression, there weren’t many takes. As such, it was converted into a hotel in 1931.
In 1990, Chateau Marmont was bought and has since then been run by hotelier Andre Balazs. So what is so special about this hotel? Let’s just say that countless Hollywood (and non-Hollywood) celebrities have spent many a naughty time in this place. This hotel is perhaps the most discrete and most private that you can find in all of Hollywood. And, in a place where privacy is hard to come by, Chateau Marmont is a haven for many. Indeed, Harry Cohn (founder of Columbia Pictures) is quoted to have said that “If you must get in trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont.”
This license for the naughty and the privacy does not come cheaply, though. The hotel has 63 rooms, cottages, and bungalows. The cheapest room – standard – will cost you a hefty $300++ per night. For the utmost privacy, the bungalows are what the stars choose. I can’t even begin to imagine how much these cost!
The next time you find yourself with cash – lots of it – to burn and you want a genuine Hollywood experience, check yourself in at the Chateau Marmont.

If you do, then you are among countless people yearning to live at The Broadway Hollywood, a condominium complex that gives a new twist to the classic loft style of living. The Broadway Hollywood is located at Hollywood and Vine and is housed in a 1927 department store building. The builders of this condominium complex took the original New York loft style and added their own brand of creativity.
Taking a step away from the industrialized loft style, The Broadway Hollywood has all the perks that are needed for style and comfort. It has a fitness center, the view is fantastic, it has a rooftop pool with cabanas for lounging, and more. The units themselves are designed for the most discerning tastes. Think Hollywood big names such as Charlize Theron, Dave Navarro, and Danny Masterson – they all have units in this building.
The Broadway Hollywood has more to offer than the condo units. With its strategic location, there are so many conveniences to be had. There is the Katsuya sushi joint downstairs and The Geisha House is within walking distance. This is not to mention the other numerous shops that you can visit within minutes.
Of course, you have to pay a considerable sum to enjoy all of this. Guess how much a unit will set you back? I could not find prices for the average lofts but a two-floor penthouse unit with a living area of 2,000 square feet was recently listed at $1.8 million!

He is a big star in Hollywood – and the rest of the world for that matter. He starred in so many hit movies. He bought a Toyota Prius (a green car, for those who do not know what it is) more than 7 years ago, when buying green cars was not the trend. He inspired other big stars to follow suit. He doesn’t have a Hummer (or a similar gas guzzling car) on the side. He even refuses to fly on a private jet and instead takes commercial flights. He has made films, which include a documentary, that highlights the environmental crisis. This is one man that “walks the talk” when it comes to being green. Can you make a guess as to who I am talking about?
To be honest, he was not the first person to come to mind. He is Leonardo di Caprio. Of Titanic fame, this guy has done a lot to bring environmental awareness to his part of the world. Even in private ways, he has been consistent in living a green life. Even international news agencies have taken notice. The Times Online (UK) ran a feature on him some time ago and noted that he has not always been this conscious of the environment:
The actor wasn’t always so planet-conscious: his first car, bought when he was 16, was a 1969 Ford Mustang, one of the original muscle cars. “It broke down on the freeway three times,” he says. “I nearly died [of embarrassment].”
So what made him change? He says that his role in the movie The Beach helped him become aware of our duty to conserve nature. His first act when he returned home after filming? He bought a Prius.
Seems to me we can learn something here.

…look for a posh dog hotel instead. It is not a secret that many Hollywood personalities have a deep affinity for pooches of all kinds. Even if you’re not a high profile personality, if you live in Hollywood and you find yourself needing someone to take care of your canine best friend during the holiday season, you have a new option that will help you have peace of mind.
The Street has a feature for Hollywood dog lovers and their top choice is Rover Kennels, described as the “haughtiest dog hotel:”
Rover is more than just a dog hotel; it also offers cage-free daycare, training and grooming for an array of dogs and cats. All guests and owners are interviewed to assess temperament and ability to play with others.
Overnight guests select from standard rooms, upgraded suites and the presidential suite. Standard boarding includes a self-contained room with glass door, fluffy dog bed and all-day access to the cage-free play area. Upgraded suites offer free-standing platform beds with more sedate color palettes and catering options like doggy tea parties arranged with like-tempered and like-sized dogs.
…our favorite amenity at Rover Kennels is its endless concierge services that include an in-room mini-bar of pre-selected treats like turkey hotdogs, doggie ice cream and holiday dinners of organic turkey and sweet potato. Those looking for a more glamorous stay can enroll in one of the photograph packages that include art-quality prints and posters of your best friend while on their winter holiday retreat.
Um, I love dogs and I would not really want to leave my pets over the holidays. This hotel does seem a bit excessive for me though. There are other options mentioned in the feature article – they seem more practical to me. If you want to read more, visit the whole article titled “Four-Paw Holidays for Hollywood Dogs.”

It looks harmless. Even boring. Just an office building, with names of production companies, which don’t even leave much impact to the average tourist.
Until they know the story behind the street.
8439 Sunset Boulevard, now called Piazze del Sol, used to be the site of Hollywood’s most exclusive brothel, called “House of Francis.” People would go here for a different kind of networking, and whatever happened behind its doors stayed behind those doors.
Today there are still brothels, but they are typically held in private houses.
