You’ve got to hand it to Tori Spelling. She sure knows how to get media attention without resorting to showing off any body parts people would rather not see (unlike Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan). She just decided to have a yard sale – but it isn’t a yard sale like most of us know.

People lined up and got numbers to be able to enter the home of the Beverly Hills 90210 star. A mixture of neighbors, fans and the just plain curious showed up to either look around or actually buy the items for sale. There wasn’t much bargaining. Things were priced pretty low, selling for a lot cheaper than most people expected. The best part, people could pay in cash or by credit card.

Why in the world is she having a yard sale? She’s doing it for a number of reasons. First, after the will of her rich and famous father,Aaron Spelling, was read, she learned that she was given less than $1 million of his estate which is valued at $300 million. All the proceeds of the estate sale goes to Tori and not to some charity organization. With regular folks it would make sense to sell off some stuff to raise additional cash. By no means though would anyone describe Tori as someone cash strapped.

Next, she has a reality TV show called So NoTORIous. Tori and husband Dylan McDermott are moving overseas to open a bed and breakfast – which will be part of the show. They’ll be gone for about a year so looks like Tori figured better to give up the place and everything in it. The estate sale is an episode of the series. Normally they would need to hire so many extras to take part in a show but why hire extras if you can get people to volunteer and actually pay you to be part of the show. People were signing release forms as they entered the door otherwise they couldn’t go in.

Tori has also been heard to say that it is time to move on. Out with the old and in with the new seems to be a saying she has taken literally and to heart, much to the delight of her shoppers.

Madonna has long been a trend setter. Her sense of style has influence millions of girls all over the world. Finally she is coming out with her own clothing line. She is working with Swedish retailer Hennes and Mauritz, Europe‘s largest fashion retailers.

Madonna has always had a great feel for fashion. The material girl is well known for her various “looks”. She was never afraid to try new looks and combinations which always became vogue. Madonna always understood that girls like to have different looks. The material girl’s taste in clothes and accessories have matured just as she has. Girls have been imitating her clothes, hair and accessories since she first burst on the music scene. No matter what style she chose, it became a hit.

During her “Confessions” Tour, Madonna, her dance troop and her band had an agreement to wear the Hennes and Mauritz designs off stage. Margareta van den Bosch, Hennes and Mauritz’ head of design, noted the star’s preference to be involved in choosing which clothes she would wear. She said that Madonna is style conscious, passionate and cares about even the smallest details. The retail company says that Madonna’s collection will reflect the material girl’s timelessness, as well as her unique and always glamorous style”. Madonna just says she’s enjoying it and looks forward to wearing the new clothes along with everyone who buys them.

This attention to detail combined with her eye for fashion trends is what has inspired the clothing company to work with her and produce her clothing and accessories collection. The “M by Madonna” collection is set to be available in March 2007.

Every year millions worth of memorabilia are sold each year. It is fascinating to note which items truly capture the eye and heart of the buyers, causing the bidding to go way beyond the expected amount. 2006 has had its share of interesting auctions. Here are some of the interesting sales made:

Who hasn’t seen the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”? This 1961 movie starring Audrey Hepburn has achieved legend status. The Givenchy gown that Ms Hepburn wore has achieved that as well after being sold for ?417,000 ($822,300). The original estimate was that it would sell for a mere $138,000. The proceeds will go to the charity City of Joy Aid which helps India‘s poor.

There are spies; and there are spies. There is, however, no one like agent 007. Thanks to the filming of Casino Royal more James Bond fans are formed and these fans usually love to collect various spy gadgets. The latest item to be auctioned off was the Walther PP gun used by Sean Connery in the 1962 Bond film, Dr No. It was sold for 54,000 pounds ($106,202).

How about some music? The original handwritten lyrics of Sir Paul McCartney’s song “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” sold for $192,000. The same person who bought it also bought Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 Fender Stratocastor electric guitar for $168,000, the guitar’s strap for $10,800 and a photograph at $5,400 of Jimi Hendrix with 2 band members and two blonds (topless).

The year isn’t done yet. On December 14-15 of this year, Joseph Maddalena and his Profile of History is auctioning off Elvis Presley’s 1967 diamond and platinum wedding ring. This is the ring that he unveiled at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas when he wed Priscilla. It is expected to sell for $400,000-$600,000.

It would seem that Gwyneth Paltrow has lost any love or respect she had for her own countrymen. When asked who she would pick to have a dinner date with, she didn’t name a single American. Now that’s okay, most would say. What isn’t okay is what she said after.

During her interview with Diario de Noticias, a daily Portuguese Newspaper, the Los Angeles born actress said, “I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans”. She went on to say, “I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money; they talk about interesting things at dinner”.

Whatever inspired the actress to call her countrymen inferior is spreading a lot of anger in the United States. Less intelligent they may be in her eyes, they are smart enough to know that she insulted them and they don’t like it. Since her biggest fan base is from these “less civilized” people, her popularity has dropped a great deal. Calls from all over the country were coming in thick and fast to various radio stations saying that the US is far better off without her.

It could be that Paltrow’s words were taken out of context but it sure has agitated a lot of her countrymen. Whatever their shortcomings, many Americans feel that these comments were most uncivilized.

Paltrow lives in London with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, and her two kids.

Reese Witherspoon is taking all precautions to make her divorce as neat and clean as possible. While she cited irreconcilable differences as her reason for filing for divorce from husband of seven years, Ryan Phillippe, she knows that people aren’t above speculating that it is because her affections may have been captured by another actor – after all it happens all the time in Hollywood; just look at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It was a big surprise to many that this couple joined splitsville.

To lessen the risk of messy rumors, she has banned all cellphones from the set while she works. Currently she is filming the movie “Renditions” which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal. Too many people have camera phones and itchy fingers – they will send pictures taken from the shoot to local tabloids which are really of no help during proceedings as painful as these. Rumors are already flying that she and Gyllenhaal have a “budding friendship” which in Hollywood often translates to an affair or ongoing romance.

Witherspoon, truly doesn’t want a mess like Paul McCartney and Heather Mills or Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. She just wants to get the divorce over and done with as quickly and quietly as possible. That isn’t too much to ask, isn’t it?

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have two children together; Ava is seven and Deacon is three. Witherspoon is asking for full custody of the children with visitation rights for Phillippe. She is also asking for exclusive use of their home.
