Julia Roberts.jpg

Actress Julia Roberts, 39, and husband cameraman Danny Moder, 37, are now expecting their third child. This news is definitely making the actress very happy who has expressed a desire for a large family. Roberts is expected to give birth in the summer.

Roberts and Moder met on the set of “The Mexican” and married in July, 2002. The couple has a pair of twins – PhinnaeusWalter and Hazel Patricia – who are now two years old. Roberts had a difficult pregnancy then, needing bed rest after she’d experienced false labor. Hopefully this time around the pregnancy will be easier on the actress.

The Pretty Woman star is a very busy lady. She is expected to be part of two films scheduled for next year, 2007. These are “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Friday Knitting Club”. With luck, this Oscar award winner will  be able to keep working throughout this pregnancy if she chooses.

trump.jpg

It is a bit hard to imagine anyone getting into a fight over the size of a flagpole but Donald Trump is definitely angry. He is spitting mad and plans on suing the Palm Beach forefathers a whopping $25 million.

“What’s the fuss all about?”, you wonder. Donald Trump put an 80 foot flagpole on top of his Mar-a-Lago property. He sent a letter to veronica Close, director of Palm Beach Planning, Zoning and Building Department, advising the town officials of his intention to have the pole put in place and to assure the town officials that it would be of the highest quality and capable of withstanding a category 5 hurricane. According to Palm Beach Officials, the flagpole that the Donald erected over his Mar-a-Lago property violates the zones 42- foot maximum limit. Ms. Close could not be reached for comment.

Donald Trump points out that a smaller pole would be insignificant against the size of the building. It is meant to fly the US flag proudly. The flag measures 25 by 50 feet, the same size as that which waves in Washington DC over the Capitol. He says that this so-called violation is restriction of his freedom of speech.

Hmmm…wasn’t that what Rosie O’Donnell was exercising last week?

James Brown.jpgAnd the world is poorer for his loss yet better for having had him for the short time that he was with us. James Brown was a legend indeed.

James Brown’s music inspired many a rapper and hip hop artist. He paved the way for the likes of Michael Jackson and Prince. He was a lively, energetic man until the day he passed away. He truly was performing almost to the last day of his life. Not even being ill got him down. Even as he entered the hospital this past Saturday, he was planning a New Year’s performance.

The godfather of soul, as James Brown called himself in his autobiography, was brought to the Emory Crawford Long Hospital with pneumonia Saturday. He passed away of heart failure at around 1:45 am on Christmas Day.

James Brown will always be remembered in his music. He really got all of us with his unique funky sound exactly as his song “I Got You (I Feel Good)” says.

p-diddy-dog-fur.jpg

You thought you’d heard the last fur issue from Hollywood this year when Christina Ricci was crucified on media. Well her time on the hot seat i done. Move over Cruella de Ville. There’s a bigger person in the frying pan for using dog fur on coats and no one was more surprised than the man himself, Sean “P.Diddy” Combs.

P. Diddy’s designer clothing line, Sean John, had a hooded snorkel jacket that was advertised as having a faux rabbit fur trim. Some buyers noted that the actual jacket had a tag that read “genuine raccoon fur”. Both claims have been proven to be wrong. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) released the results of the mass spectrometry test which proved that the fur was real, but it wasn’t from a raccoon. Instead the fur came from the raccoon dog. The raccoon dog is not a raccoon. It’s a dog that is found in East Asia whose coat is similar to that of the bandit like animal.

P. Diddy says that he was unaware that real fur of any kind had been used in his clothing line. He had the jackets pulled out immediately. His company has a policy against using real fur of any kind.

Hilary Duff Doll.jpgHilary Duff is a great girl. She is natural, smart and very appealing. She loves fashion and isn’t afraid to try new things. She may be a famous actress but she hasn’t let it get to her head; which is why so many fans love her. Is it any wonder that Mattel chose her to become a part of their collection?

No, Mattel isn’t sticking her in the cardboard box. They are, however, definitely releasing 12 inch versions of the star of Lizzie Maguire. The red sashed, polka dot dressed Red Carpet Glam Hilary Duff Doll will be available for her fans to bring home this month.

Hilary Duff isn’t the first Hollywood star to be made into Barbie sized figures. She joins the ranks of Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce and Lucille Ball. She is definitely in good company.

Jamie Wood, vice president of Mattel’s Barbie marketing, said in a statement that Barbie and Hilary Duff are:

“great role models to girls and the perfect design duo. Not only are they two of the most stylish entertainers, actors and fashion designers, but they also show girls there are no limits to what they can do.”

Tom and Jerry, The Flinstones, Josie and The Pussycats, Scooby Doo, The Smurfs…These are but a few of the legacy left behind by animation giant, Joseph Barbera. He passed away this week at the age of 95.

Joseph Barbera’s creations have entertained millions the world over. They made Saturday mornings the best time for kids. Joseph Barbera and his partner William Hanna together produced hundreds of thousands of shows since the 1940’s. They were pioneers in television animation.

Barbera was a great animator. He used to draw and paint each individual piece of celluloid film that was used in the Tom and Jerry Show, the cartoon that won them several Oscars. He also thought up most of the dialogue for the characters. He had many ideas and was constantly coming up with new plots and characters, long after Hanna-Barbera had been bought by Turner -  which  became Cartoon Network - and later purchased by Time Warner.

No matter though who owns the creations, the cartoons that Joseph Barbera and his partner brought to life will never be forgotten. He, and William Hanna, will truly be missed.

Since the days when twiggy first walked the runway, becoming a stick figure with bumps or being ultra thin has become more than just a fashion. It has become an obsession for quite a portion of the female population. Some feel that it is inspired by fashion and the women (and men) of Hollywood such as Kate Bosworth, Keira Knightley and Nicole Richie.

Kate Moss.jpgIn fact the announcement of Diane von Furstenberg, in her capacity as president of the Council of Fashion Designers came on the heels of the discovery of Richie’s weight of 85 lbs.? The US fashion industry is being encouraged to take a stand on the issue of underweight models just as Madrid, Brazil and Milan have. In these fashion centres, any model with a body mass index (BMI)? below 18 is banned from the runway. This? figure would take supermodel Kate Moss off the ramp.

As von Furstenburg wrote in her letter, “as designers, we cannot ignore the impact fashion has on body image. We share a responsibility to protect women, and very young girls in particular, within the industry.”

Oprah has two new projects in the works. Her latest venture: feel good reality TV. The shows are titled “Oprah Winfrey’s Big Give” and “Your Money or Your Life” and will be produced by Harpo and ABC.

“Oprah Winfrey’s Big Give” is all about charity. The shows 10 participants are given money (and resources) which they have to increase. They have to be creative and ingenuous in order to mulitply the amount they have. The amount that they raise is given to others. As with most reality shows, one contestant is elminated each week. The winner gets his or her wildest dream granted.

“Your Money or Your Life” on the other hand features family in crisis. A team of experts will be coming in to help each family as they try to change in order to avert disaster; that in itself is already a gift to the family.

The point of these reality TV shows is changing lives for the better and making wishes come true. Oprah is just opening up more shows that will hopefully help people and still make great TV. There is word yet on whether Oprah will do the actual hosting for either show.

Looks like Nicole Richie may be doing jail time. The “Simple life” star was recently arrested for driving under the influence after 911 calls came in that she was driving the wrong way down a Burbank freeway. When the police arrived, Nicole Richie’s car was stopped in the car pool lane facing the right direction. She wasn’t drunk but she did admit to taking Vicodin and having smoked pot.

This is the second time that the actress has been arrested with this charge. The first time, she pleaded no contest and served three years community service. She also got her license suspended for a year. Six months later, she was arrested again; this time it was for heroin possession and driving with a suspended license.

Under California law, if Richie is convicted with a second DUI charge, she will spend five consecutive days in the county jail – this is a mandatory sentence. They will also suspend her license again for a year plus she will also be required to attend an alcohol education program for about a year and a half – even though she wasn’t drunk at the second arrest.

The word is out. It will be Prince performing at the 2007 Superbowl at halftime. The Grammy Award winning artist is the third rock and roll hall of famer to be chosen to perform at the event.

This is a great comeback for Prince, who is best known for his 80’s and 90’s hits. His songs such as Let’s Go Crazy, Little Red Corvette and When Doves Cry are still well remembered; especially Kiss which has been used in a number of movies including one of the current releases “Happy Feet”. His career skyrocketed with his album “Purple Rain”.

Ever since the infamous breast baring incident, better known as nipplegate, at the 2004 Superbowl, CBS has been more cautious in selecting the artists who will perform at halftime since the network was fined a hefty $550,000 for that brief exposure of Janet Jackson’s breast. Prince may be known for his more salacious songs but he is a changed man since he became Jehovah’s Witness.

Other artists who have performed at the Superbowl include Gloria Stefan, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Mary J. Blige, No Doubt, Patti LaBelle, Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones.
